It is winter here – the season of lovely frostiness,
and Ace is schooling himself
new ways to celebrate.
The moonlight is dazzling white
loads of which is dripping into our backyard
And snow, as usual, seems to be in love with all the trees
and leaves and grass and earth, the way it
wraps them snugly.
And Ace, he is, you can say, mystified
because of, well, all the delicious possibilities.
He can chase the flying snowflakes
and there is this crunchy ice for him to eat.
And then, there is this flying, he believes he can do
and beats the wind
and also he can dig through snow
to get to the roots mining the earth
while a pair of coyotes
creep on silent feet about the frozen creek.
He knows world is wonderful and he is
happy to be existing in it.
Can you imagine him thinking that,
that fierce beast?
