Today as I stood under
the stark winter trees
And felt the sun
On my face,
I thought about their nakedness;
how winter comes and robs
them of lushness,
Leaving them shrivelled and barren
And how they just keep
standing there,
patient and firm
Until the spring comes
And embraces them in her abundance.
Once again they become lush
and oh so perfect
You can hardly believe
Winter ever came around
to steal that bloom
